How to Deploy Printers to Users or Computers via Group Policy?<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n

One of the most important features of Group Policies in Active Directory domain environment is the possibility to automatically connect a shared network printers on a group of computers or users with just a few clicks. Thus, when a user login to the Windows, an assigned network printer will automatically appear in the list of available print devices.<\/p>\n

Deploy Printers Using GPO<\/h2>\n

So, this time we will take a look on how to deploy shared network printer connections to users from a specific\u00a0OU<\/a>\u00a0of Active Directory by using Group Policy. In this case, we will use a dedicated host running Windows Server 2012 R2 as a network print server.<\/p>\n

Tip. To deploy printer connections using Group Policy, the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)\u00a0schema version<\/a>\u00a0must be at least Windows Server 2008.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h3>\n

Open the Server Manager console and select to install\u00a0Print and Document Services<\/strong>\u00a0role (if not already installed).<\/p>\n

From Role services list select to install\u00a0Print Server<\/strong>\u00a0service.<\/p>\n

After role installation is completed, open the Print Management console from the top menu\u00a0Server Manager\u00a0<\/strong>>\u00a0Tools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Now you need to add printers to your print server. Let\u2019s start by installing the drivers.<\/p>\n
In the Print Management console, go to the\u00a0Drivers<\/strong>\u00a0section and run the\u00a0Add Driver<\/strong>\u00a0wizard. Select the type of driver architecture (x64 or x86) and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On the\u00a0Printer Driver Selection<\/strong>\u00a0screen, select the driver for your printer. If the driver you need is not listed, click\u00a0Have Disk<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Browse<\/strong>.
