Thus, when a user login to the Windows, an assigned network printer will automatically appear in the list of available print devices.<\/p>\n<h2>Deploy Printers Using GPO<\/h2>\n<p>So, this time we will take a look on how to deploy shared network printer connections to users from a specific\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theitbros.com\/active-directory-organizational-unit-ou\/\">OU<\/a>\u00a0of Active Directory by using Group Policy. In this case, we will use a dedicated host running Windows Server 2012 R2 as a network print server.<\/p>\n<p>Tip. To deploy printer connections using Group Policy, the Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/theitbros.com\/upgrading-active-directory-schema\/\">schema version<\/a>\u00a0must be at least Windows Server 2008.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 1<\/h3>\n<p>Open the Server Manager console and select to install\u00a0<strong>Print and Document Services<\/strong>\u00a0role (if not already installed).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17589\" title=\"deploy printer via gpo\" src=\"https:\/\/theitbros.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/word-image.jpeg\" alt=\"deploy printer via gpo\" width=\"545\" height=\"381\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From Role services list select to install\u00a0<strong>Print Server<\/strong>\u00a0service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17590\" title=\"printer group policy\" src=\"https:\/\/theitbros.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/word-image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"printer group policy\" width=\"545\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip<\/strong>. In our example, this is the universal HP driver, click Next and Finish. Repeat the operation for your other devices. This is useful if you have a VDI, or each person can use different workstations (for example in a Call center). This policy should not be used if users are distributed across different buildings or office branches. Otherwise, the user will have to take a walk to pick up his documents from the printer.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Per Computer<\/strong>\u00a0&gt; No matter which user is working on the computer, it will always print on a specific printer (all users of a computer can access printer). This path should contain the name of your print server.
