You can also disable notifications for individual apps, or hide the many other notifications that appear throughout Windows.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">How to Disable All Notifications<\/h2>\n<p>Windows 10\u2019s Settings app allows you to control notifications. To launch it, open the Start menu, and then click the gear-shaped \u201cSettings\u201d icon\u2014or press Windows+I.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344510\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/img_5a97222f4185a.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Navigate to System &gt; Notifications &amp; Actions in the Settings window.<\/p>\n<p>To disable notifications for every app on your system, turn the \u201cGet notifications from apps and other senders (Teatised ja Toimingud)\u201d toggle off.<\/p>\n<p>This option will disable the notifications for both Windows 10 Store apps and classic desktop apps.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344505\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/img_5a97203169f1c.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><\/h2>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">How to Disable Individual App Notifications<\/h2>\n<p>To disable notifications for individual apps, head to System &gt; Notifications &amp; Actions, and then scroll down to the \u201cGet notifications from these senders\u201d list. This list shows Windows system features, Store apps, and traditional desktop apps that can send notifications.<\/p>\n<p>Set an app to \u201cOff\u201d and Windows prevent that app from showing notifications.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/ximg_5a9720aed65c8.png.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+ws+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.i5nGdXOOrW.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The above options only work for apps that use the traditional Windows notification method. Apps with custom notification bubbles continue to show their own notifications unless you close them or disable the notifications within those specific apps. Most apps that show notifications offer an option to disable them. Just open that particular app and look in its settings window for an option that disables notifications.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><\/h2>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">How to Temporarily Mute Notifications<\/h2>\n<p>Windows 10 has a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/279192\/how-to-change-the-default-quiet-hours-in-windows-10\/\">\u201cQuiet Hours\u201d feature<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/306610\/whats-new-in-windows-10s-fall-creators-update\/\">Fall Creators Update<\/a>, and this will be expanded upon and renamed to \u201cFocus Assist\u201d in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/340688\/whats-coming-in-windows-10s-redstone-4-update-available-march-2018\/\">April 2018 Update<\/a>. This is essentially a \u201cDo Not Disturb\u201d mode for Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p>When Quiet Hours (or Focus Assist) is enabled, notifications are temporarily hidden. By default, when you turn Quiet Hours on, it\u2019s enabled between midnight and 6 a.m. on the Fall Creators Update, but you\u2019ll be able to easily customize these hours on the April 2018 Update. For example, you\u2019ll sometimes see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/279632\/how-to-stop-microsoft-edges-pop-up-notifications\/\">pop-up notifications on the taskbar<\/a>\u00a0informing you about Microsoft Edge\u2019s features and \u201csuggestions\u201d about features you should use. These suggestions are also notifications.<\/p>\n<p>You can disable all these advertisements with options built into Windows 10 itself, but Microsoft has scattered the options you\u2019ll need across the operating system. For example, the News, Mail, and Facebook apps have live tiles, so you\u2019ll find yourself notified with new headlines, emails, and Facebook messages every time you open\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/197836\/8-ways-to-customize-the-windows-10-start-menu\/\">your Start menu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t want to see live tile notifications, just right-click or long-press a tile in your Start menu, and then select More &gt; Turn Live Tile Off. If you don\u2019t want to see status messages on your lock screen, you can remove them.<\/p>\n<p>To control what appears on your lock screen, head to Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Lock screen. Apps displaying content on your lock screen appear under \u201cChoose an app to show detailed status\u201d and \u201cChoose apps to show quick status.\u201d To remove an app from your lock screen, click its icon here, and then select the \u201cNone\u201d option. You can also select another app, if you\u2019d rather see another app\u2019s notifications on your lock screen.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344504\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/img_5a971ffa920a2.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><\/h2>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\">Disable Notification Area Icons<\/h2>\n<p>Even after you disable notifications, many apps continue running in your \u201cNotification Area\u201d (also known as the System Tray). These apps often update icons here with badges and animations informing you about their status.<\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/75510\/beginner-how-to-customize-and-tweak-your-system-tray-icons-in-windows-7\/\">hide icons from your notification area<\/a>, just drag them onto the up arrow to the left of the icons, and then into the little panel that appears. That panel holds any Notification Area icons that you don\u2019t want to see right on your Taskbar. (Fun fact: the official name of that panel is the Overflow Notification Pane.) The apps you drag there remain running in the background, but you won\u2019t see their notifications on your taskbar unless you click the up arrow. You can also right-click many of these applications and close them if you don\u2019t want them running in the background.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344502\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/img_5a971e1128777.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Settings app also allows you to customize your notification area icons. Just head to Settings &gt; Personalization &gt; Taskbar. In the right pane, scroll down to the \u201cNotification Area\u201d section, and then click the \u201cSelect which icons appear on the taskbar\u201d link. Set any icon to \u201cOff\u201d and it will be hidden in that overflow panel. This accomplishes the same thing as quickly dragging and dropping the icons from your taskbar.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344503\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/img_5a971e3dd12fd.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 provides many more options for dealing with notifications than Windows 7 does. For example, when using Windows 7, you have to disable notifications from within each individual app you use.
