A Domain Controller (DC) allows the creation of logical containers. These containers consist of users, computers and groups. The Domain Controllers also help in organizing and managing the Servers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Active Directory is a service which runs on the Domain Controller. One uses this service to create logical containers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow the steps below to setup the Active Directory services and promote it to a Domain Controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This example uses the following information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Root domain name: AD.GPFS.NET\nPassword: Admin1234\nNetBIOS domain name: AD0\n<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n

  1. Navigate to the Windows\u2122 Server Manager.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Click\u00a0Add Roles and Features.
    \"Add<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. It will open\u00a0Add Roles and Features\u00a0wizard. Click Next.
    \"Add<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Select the server from the server pool and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.
    \"Add<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Click checkbox to select\u00a0Active Directory Domain Services<\/strong>.
    \"Active<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. On the popup Window, click\u00a0Add Features<\/strong>.
    \"Add<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. On the description window of Active Directory Domain Services, click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.
    \"Active<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Click\u00a0Install<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0Confirmation<\/strong>\u00a0window.
    \"Confirmation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Installation process begins.
    \"Installation<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. After installing AD DS Role, you can promote this Server to a Domain Controller.
    \"Promote<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  11. Select\u00a0Add a new forest<\/strong>\u00a0and give the\u00a0Root domain name<\/strong>,\u00a0ad.gpfs.net. Click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.

  12. Enter the\u00a0Directory Services Restore Mode password<\/strong>.

  13. Ignore the warning message.

  14. Use the default NetBIOS domain name and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.

  15. Use the default paths and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.

  16. Review and click\u00a0Next<\/strong>\u00a0if no errors.

  17. Click\u00a0Install\u00a0<\/strong>and wait for the installation to finish.
