Cover was previously removed&#8221; Error Message<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When a Dell OptiPlex computer is started, the following message may appear on the screen:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alert! Cover was previously removed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This message appears if the computer cover has been removed. This behavior is part of the intrusion detection feature of the OptiPlex computer. The intrusion detection feature is designed to enhance security.<\/p>\n<p>Certain OptiPlex systems are equipped with a micro switch to detect the removal of the computer cover. By default, the computer Basic Input Output System (BIOS) is configured to generate a message if the computer cover has been removed.<\/p>\n<p>This message may be reset, or the behavior of the intrusion detection feature can be changed. To reset the message, or to change how the intrusion detection feature works, enter the\u00a0<strong>Setup<\/strong>\u00a0screen on the computer to access the BIOS settings.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><u>Reset the Intrusion Detection Message<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To reset the intrusion detection message, or to change the behavior of the intrusion detection feature, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for the particular computer model.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Modern OptiPlex Systems (2009 and newer) (OptiPlex 980 and newer)<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: Chassis intrusion messages are only displayed if the\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion<\/strong>\u00a0option in the\u00a0<strong>Security<\/strong>section of the BIOS is set to enabled. The default BIOS setting is\u00a0<strong>On-Silent)<\/strong><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Ensure the cover is properly installed on the chassis and the intrusion switch is engaged (depressed).<\/li>\n<li>Shut down, and then restart the computer.<\/li>\n<li>When the\u00a0<strong>F2 for Setup<\/strong>\u00a0message appears in the upper right of the screen, press the\u00a0<strong>F2<\/strong>\u00a0key to enter the system setup.<\/li>\n<li>On the\u00a0<strong>Setup<\/strong>\u00a0screen that appears, press the\u00a0<strong>Down Arrow<\/strong>\u00a0key or use the mouse to select\u00a0<strong>System Security<\/strong>, and then press the\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong>\u00a0key.<\/li>\n<li>Check the\u00a0<strong>Clear Intrusion Warning<\/strong>\u00a0checkbox,<\/li>\n<li>Save settings and reboot into the operating system.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The error should now be cleared.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dell OptiPlex GX100, GX110, GX300, GX200, GX115, or GX150 Computers<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Shut down, and then restart the computer.<\/li>\n<li>When the\u00a0<strong>F2 for Setup<\/strong>\u00a0message appears in the upper right of the screen, press the\u00a0<strong>F2<\/strong>\u00a0key.<\/li>\n<li>On the\u00a0<strong>Setup<\/strong>\u00a0screen that appears, press the\u00a0<strong>Down Arrow<\/strong>\u00a0key to select\u00a0<strong>System Security<\/strong>, and then press the\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong>\u00a0key.<\/li>\n<li>On the\u00a0<strong>System Security<\/strong>\u00a0screen that appears, press the\u00a0<strong>Down Arrow<\/strong>\u00a0key to select\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion<\/strong>, and then press the\u00a0<strong>Enter<\/strong>\u00a0key.\n<div class=\"alert alert-info\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: Because the computer cover had been removed,\u00a0<strong>Detected<\/strong>\u00a0appears next to\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0<strong>System Security<\/strong>\u00a0screen.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Press the\u00a0<strong>Right Arrow<\/strong>\u00a0key or the\u00a0<strong>Left Arrow\u00a0<\/strong>as appropriate to change the\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion<\/strong>\u00a0option to one of the following options:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enabled<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This option resets the\u00a0<strong>Alert! Cover was previously removed<\/strong>\u00a0message. This option is designed for use in a managed environment. Use this option to generate an\u00a0<strong>Alert! Cover was previously removed<\/strong>message when the computer cover is removed. Additionally,\u00a0<strong>Detected<\/strong>\u00a0appears next to\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion<\/strong>on the\u00a0<strong>System Security<\/strong>\u00a0screen when the computer cover is removed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enabled-Silent<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This option is similar to the\u00a0<strong>Enabled<\/strong>\u00a0option. However, when the\u00a0<strong>Enable-Silent<\/strong>\u00a0option is selected, an\u00a0<strong>Alert! Cover was previously removed<\/strong>\u00a0message does not appear when the computer cover is removed. If the computer cover is removed,\u00a0<strong>Detected<\/strong>\u00a0appears next to\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0<strong>System Security<\/strong>\u00a0screen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Disabled<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; This option disables the generation of an\u00a0<strong>Alert! Cover was previously removed<\/strong>\u00a0message when the computer cover is removed. Additionally, when this option is selected,\u00a0<strong>Detected<\/strong>\u00a0no longer appears next to\u00a0<strong>Chassis Intrusion<\/strong>\u00a0when the computer cover is removed.
